Background: • The Police Department deployed analog (VHS) videorecording systems in its patrol cars in 2003. VHS systems had been around for many years and the digital technology was expensive, fairly new and advancing rapidly at the time. With this project, the Police Department will begin its transition to digital video. Discussion: The Police Department is currently using Mobile Vision Analog (VHS) Recording systems in our Patrol Cars. The Motor Units are the only patrol assigned vehicles without a video/audio recording system An:analog system is not practical on a motorcycle because of size and weight'. A digital system would not only accomplish this, bit would also allow a secure wireless transfer of the video files directly from the vehicle to a server located inside the Police Department Building. The server will include an automated DVD archiving system and will be of sufficient size and architecture to allow upgrade of our analog systems to digital at a later time. RESOLUTION NO.
