BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS:
Section 1. That the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas
hereby awards Bid #05-81 to Downing Sales and Service for the purchase of Two
(2) Front Load Solid Waste Collection Trucks in the amount of $368,888.00.

Subject: Front Load Solid Waste Collection Truck Purchase
RECOMMENDATION: That City Council approve the purchase of two Front Load Solid Waste
Collection trucks for use by Solid Waste Division.
BACKGROUND: Bid #05-81 was opened on November 14, 2005 for Front Load Solid Waste
Collection trucks for use by Solid Waste Division. Six bid responses were received. A detailed
tabulation sheet is attached. The lowest bid from Downing Sales and Service meets all
specifications.
These two trucks are replacements for units #443 and 445, 1996 Mack trucks that are
scheduled for replacement and should be replaced prior to implementation of 2007 emission
requirements. These chassis and bodies have reached an age that they are no longer
dependable for daily operation.
I recommend acceptance of the lowest bid from Downing Sales and Service in the amount of
$184,444 per unit - $368,888 for two.
Funds are available for the replacement in 9700.1920.5802.00, Project #02082.1
The purchase of these two units was approved by the Equipment Committee on November 30,
2005, subject to budget approval.

Bid #05-81 was opened on November 14, 2005 for two Front Load Solid Waste Collection Trucks for

Contingent upon approval of the 2006 budget, I recommend acceptance of the lowest bid from
Downing Sales and Service in the amount of $184,444.00 per unit - $368,888.00 for two.
I request approval of the Equipment Committee to place the purchase of no more than front load solid
waste collection trucks from Downing Sales and Service on the January 3, 2006. Council agenda.
Quantity submitted will be subject to budget approval.
These two trucks are replacements for units 443 and 445, 1996 Macks that are scheduled for
replacement and should be replaced prior to implementation of 2007 emission requirements. These
