Recommendation: Transportation Division staff recommends the approval to purchase a New Holland Bobcat S205 Skid Steer Loader with forklifts, a 24" Hi-flo planer attachment and a hydraulic breaker attachment using funds budgeted in the 2005 In -House Pavement Improvements project. Background: The Transportation Division's production has steadily increased over the past two years, from 8.9 miles of asphalt overlay completed in 2002 to 11.03 miles in 2003 and 12.42 miles in 2004The division is currently working towards an aggressive overlay goal of 18.61 miles in 2005. During the past year, the Transportation Division expanded with the addition of asphalt preparation and patch crews, consisting of six full-time employees. The addition of these employees has enabled the division to continue its overall increase in production. The purchase of a skid steer loader is necessary in order to maximize the efficiency of the asphalt preparation, patch, and overlay crews. Discussion: The purchase of an additional skid steer loader with the forklift, hi-flo planer and hydraulic breaker attachments will allow for precise trimming around sewer manholes and water valves and can also be utilized during the repair of utility street cuts. This will result in improvements to the quality of asphalt overlays as well as the overall appearance of street repair and rehabilitation projects. Budget Impact: The New Holland Bobcat S205 Skid Steer Loader, with the forklift, 24" Hi -Flo Planer and Hydraulic Breaker attachments, can be purchased for a total price of $41,110.41. In addition, the monthly motor pool charges will be $986.00 for a total motor pool expense of $6,902.00 for the remainder of 2005. Funding for this expansion is available within the In -House Pavement Improvements project. Increased efficiency through improved organization and work methods has enabled the Transportation Division to save money in multiple aspects of the construction process, thus allowing the surplus funds to be invested in this additional equipment with no reduction in street improvement goals. 10 -0..5 RESOLUTION NO.
