BACKGROUND: Bid 05-17 was opened February 8, 2005. The lowest bid from Williams Tractor meets all specifications. These units are for: one Expansion for Transportation as authorized in the 2005 budget for the asphalt crew; one replacement of unit 975 for Transportation (975 is used regularly with a hydraulic pavement breaker and is requiring extensive maintenance due to severe service); one replacement of unit 979 for Solid Waste (979 has 3350 hours and is used daily to handle recycled materials), and one replacement of unit 526 for Parks (526 is a 1990 tractor that is uneconomically repairable and was sold at auction in Nov. 2004.) Funds are available for the purchase of these skid steer loaders and attachments in Project 02080 — Other Vehicles and Equipment. The Equipment Committee approved these purchases at the meeting of February 22, 2005. There have been two changes to the information the Equipment Committee approved. An error on the bid for the Utility Bucket was discovered — it actually costs $822, rather than $2124.80. A cab has been added to the unit for Solid Waste as well as factory installed fittings for a future sweeper attachment which increased the price by $2211.99. s/ 7 -os RESOLUTION NO. These are replacements for unit # 6331634, 635, 636, 637, all 1997 Ford backhoes with an average of 3,300 hours each. While still serviceable, these machines have reached an age that daily dependability is questionable and maintenance cost is rising. With an anticipated resale retum of $15- 20,000 each, the timing is appropriate to replace these machines.
