RESOLUTION NO. 36-05
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE FAYETTEVILLE POLICE
DEPARTMENT TO ACCEPT AN ARKANSANS FOR DRUG FREE
YOUTH GRANT IN THE AMOUNT OF $20,000.00 TO FUND
TRAINING AND OVERTIME FOR OFFICERS PERFORMING
UNDERAGE DRINKING PATROL, COMPLIANCE CHECKS OF
MERCHANTS SELLING ALCOHOL AND COMMUNITY
PRESENTATIONS; AND APPROVING A BUDGET
ADJUSTMENT RECOGNIZING THE GRANT REVENUE.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS:
Section 1. That the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas
hereby authorizes the Fayetteville Police Department to accept an Arkansans For
Drug Free Youth Grant in the amount of $20,000.00 to fund training and
overtime for officers performing Underage Drinking Patrol, compliance checks of
merchants selling alcohol and community presentations.
Section 2. That the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas
hereby approves a budget adjustment recognizing said grant revenue.
PASSED and APPROVED this 1st day of March 2005.

RE: Application to Arkansans for Drug Free Youth Grant
Recommendation:
It is recommended City Council approve the acceptance of funding to enforce
underage drinking laws and approve a budget adjustment recognizing the grant.
Background:
The Fayetteville Police Department has worked closely with the Arkansans for
Drug Free Youth organization for several years. This organization has provided three
other grants, which supported out efforts to eliminate underage drinking. The
Department received reimbursement for officer's salaries and overtime to perform special
patrols checking liquor stores and bars for compliance by not serving underage persons.
We have also received funds to cover training for our officers and supplies to provide
training for local merchants.
Discussion:
Without this special funding the police department will only be able to monitor
underage drinking during normal patrol. The funds provided by this grant will allow
additional officers to be assigned this task as well.
