There were four bids with the low bid in the amount $1,153,681.00. It was determined at that time to not award the contract and redesign the project in- house. With assistance from Engineering for drainage design, we looked at all design issues and implemented many cost reducing changes as well as improvements to the trail experience. Current Status: The re -designed project bids were opened and the low bid was from Sweetser Construction in the amount of $ 426,936.03. This amount is a 63% reduction in cost from the original bid. The final quantities reconciliation is complete and the project is over in some pay items. Please see attached change order for a listing of quantities. The estimated quantities used in project were based on the Geotechnical Engineer's recommendation of building the trail in the dry part of the year. Many factors out of our control prevented this from happening, such as an extremely wet spring and summer and the publics desire to complete the trail project in a timely fashion. Recommendation: Parks and Recreation staff recommends approving Change Order #3 which includes all final quantity reconciliations. This project currently has the funds needed to cover this expenditure. cc: files Telephone: 501-718-7688 1 City of Fayetteville Parks and Recreation Division 113 W. In 2002, the Parks and Recreation Division applied and was awarded a $200,000 dollar 80/20 matching grant from the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department for this project. The city also has an outstanding 80/20 matching grant from previous trail projects that can be applied to West Mud Creek Trail.
