The City of Fayetteville, Arkansas
City Council Agenda Memo
City Council Meeting Date:

Ass/Sia"
June 21, 2005
To: Mayor Coody and member of the City Council
From: Frank Johnson, Chief of Police
Date: June 3, 2005
Subject: Approve Application and Accept Award of 2005 Justice Assistance Grant
Recommendation:
It is recommended the City Council approve the application in the amount of
$41,373.00 for the Fayetteville Police Department; $26,175.00 for the City of Springdale
Police Department and $16,887.00 for the Washington County Sheriffs Department for
a total of $84,435.00. Also approve the budget adjustment recognizing the revenue.
Background:
The City of Fayetteville Police Department has received a Local Law
Enforcement Block grant since 1996. This grant, along with the Edward Byrne grant
was combined and renamed Justice Assistance Grant (JAG). This year the grant was
awarded to the three entities listed above with the City of Fayetteville acting as the lead
agency.
Discussion:
The Fayetteville Police Department will utilize these funds to purchase laptop
computers with docking port, Internet protocol modems and in -car cameras to provide
these systems in all marked police vehicles. The City of Springdale Police Department
will purchase additional tasers and replacement radios for Police Officers. Washington
County will purchase digital in -car video systems and the wireless interface with
storage. The additional funds provided through this grant will greatly enhance each of
these projects by allowing each agency to purchase more items than current funding will
provide.
Budget Impact:
This is a non-matching grant therefore the budget impact is not a factor a budget
adjustment Is attached to recognize the revenue and expenditures.. The City of
Fayetteville Police Department will follow City purchasing practices when purchasing
the above items. The City of Springdale and Washington County will follow their
purchasing practices.
