By City Council Resolution the city committed $7.7 million to match an equal or greater State share for improvements to facilities on or relieving facilities at or beyond capacity on the State System located within Fayetteville. The projects listed as a high priority in Fayetteville were: Highway Projects • Highway 265 (Crossover Road) --Highway 45 (Mission) north to City Limits) • Highway 45 --North Street east to City Limit • Highway 16 East --Highway 71B east to City Limit • Highway 180 (Township) --Gregg Street 71B (College Ave.) to Highway 180/ Local Street Linkages for Traffic Relief • Zion Road --Highway 265 to Highway 71B (College Ave.) • Rupple Road/Howard Nickell/Highway 112 --Highway 62 to Van Asche • Mount Comfort Road--Rupple Road to I-540 Studies • North Street --Highway 45 (Mission) to Gregg Street • Arkansas Ave. Extension --Maple to Garland • Fulbright/I-540 Access to Regional Retail, Office, and Medical Center Subsequent to this Resolution the AHTD proposed that the Highway 265 Corridor from Highway 45 to Rogers become a regional priority as well as a State priority. The AHTD has indicated that the communities to the north have been requested participate in this Corridor improvement also. As Mayor, 1 have brought this to the Street Committee and discussed it with the Council. Based upon that discussion, I forwarded a letter to the AHTD indicating the City of Fayetteville's interest in partnering with AHTD and our neighbors to the north in creating this 265, eastern bypass for 1-540. DISCUSSION The AHTD has requested a City Council Resolution supporting the Highway 265 project. My recommendation to the Council is to approve the attached Resolution supporting the 265 project, contingent upon our neighboring communities to the north also participating so that this Highway 265 corridor will become in essence an eastern bypass providing the needed relief for 1-540. • • • RESOLUTION NO.
