APPROVed >DA.N-C-OODY, Mayor From the Desk of the Fire Chief Memo • Fayetteville Fire Dept 303 W Center St Fayetteville, AR 72701 (479) 575-8365 To: Fayetteville City Council From: Chris Bosch, Fire Chief() CC: Dan Coody, Mayor Date April 11, 2003 Re: Fire Department Uniform Purchase Plan Background In prior years, it was the responsibility of each firefighter to purchase his/her own uniforms. This not only placed the burden on the employee of obtaining the correct unrforrn, it also created the problem of no standardization. The uniforms varied due to uniform purchases from vanous vendors. Current Situation In an effort to relieve this burden from the employee as well as define specifications and standardize all unrforms, the Fire Department is seeking approval to purchase new unrforms and to distribute them to the firefighters. This change in procedure falls in line with the Fire Department's efforts to move towards a quartermaster system. Four bids for this purchase were obtained. The lowest bidder, Cintas, did not meet specifications. The next lowest bidder, NAFECO, is the vendor chosen to make this purchase from. Recommendation I recommend the approval of the purchase by the Fire Department of the new uniforms.
