HomeMy WebLinkAbout120-03 RESOLUTIONRESOLUTION NO.120-03 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE FAYETTEVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO APPLY FOR AND ACCEPT A LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT BLOCK GRANT (LLEBG) IN THE AMOUNT OF THIRTY-THREE THOUSAND FOUR HUNDRED NINETY DOLLARS ($33,490.00) FROM THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE FOR THE PURCHASE OF COMPUTER EQUIPMENT, AND APPROVING A BUDGET ADJUSTMENT IN THE SAME AMOUNT TO RECOGNIZE THE GRANT REVENUE AND APPROPRIATE THE MATCI IING FUNDS. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS: Section 1. That the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas hereby accepts a Local Law Enforcement Block Grant (LLEBG) in the amount of Thirty -Three Thousand Four Hundred Ninety Dollars (533,490.00) from the U.S. Department of Justice for the purchase of computer equipment. Section 2. That the City Council of the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas hereby approves a budget adjustment in the same amount to recognize the grant revenue and appropriate the matching funds. The amount of each grant award is calculated based upon population and UCR statistics. These funds have been used to begin our School Resource Officer program as well as funding for computers and mobile video equipment. Current Status: The police department received notification through Senator Blanche Lincoln's office announcing the grant application period. The application will be available on-line August 4, 2003 and must be completed by August 28, 2003. Attached is copy of the application for the 2003 Local Law Enforcement Block Grant (LLEBG) in the amount of $30,141.00. This grant requires a 10% match or $3,349.00 for a total project in the amount of 33,490.00. A budget adjustment is attached to accept the award when the application is accepted. Recommendation: It is recommended the City Council approve the application and the acceptance of the 2003 LLEBG for the purchase of computer equipment for the Fayetteville Police Department and budget adjustment to cover the matching funds. The funds obtained through the LLEBG follow guiding principal #4 and #10 by providing federal funds to cover costs of computer equipment for the Police Department.
