There were four bids with the low bid in the amount $1,153,681.00. It was determined at that time to not award the contract and redesign the project in- house. With assistance from Engineering for drainage design, we looked at all design issues and implemented many cost reducing changes as well as improvements to the trail experience.. In 2002, the Parks and Recreation Division applied and was awarded a $200,000 dollar 80/20 matching grant from the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department for this project. The city also has an outstanding 80/20 matching grant from previous trail projects that can be applied to West Mud Creek Trail. Current Status: The re -designed project bids were opened on August 6th, 2003. There were four responsive bidders and the low bid was from Sweetser Construction in the amount of $ 426,936.03. This amount is a 63% reduction in cost from the original bid. Recommendation: Parks and Recreation staff recommends awarding the construction contract to Sweetser Construction in the amount of $426,936.03 with a 15% project contingency of $64,040.00 for a total project cost of $490,976.03.
