HomeMy WebLinkAbout192-02 RESOLUTION• • • 1 RESOLUTION NO. 192-02 A RESOLUTION TO AUTHORIZE THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE TO NEGOTIATE AN AGREEMENT WITH THE NATIONAL AUDUBON SOCIETY FOR PROPERTY WITHIN THE WILSON SPRINGS BUSINESS PARK WHEREAS, the City of Fayetteville is committed to preserve open space and areas of ecological and scenic importance, to protect water quality and wetlands, and to provide recreational opportunities for its citizens; and WHEREAS, the City of Fayetteville owns about 289 acres known as Wilson Springs Business Park; and WHEREAS, Audubon Arkansas as agent for the National Audubon Society has approached city officials and members of the City Council regarding its desire to lease Wilson Springs Business Park property for nature based education, habitat restoration and wildlife conservation purposes; and WHEREAS, Audubon Arkansas and the National Audubon Society desire to establish an "Important Bird Area" in the Wilson Springs Business Park, and at some point in the future construct an Audubon nature center on or near Wilson Springs Business Park; and WHEREAS, the City of Fayetteville plans to develop approximately 70 acres of Wilson Springs Business Park for commercial purposes. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS: Section 1. That the Mayor of Fayetteville is authorized to negotiate with Audubon Arkansas as agent of the National Audubon Society for a lease agreement with the National Audubon Society for property in the Wilson Springs Business Park, in the amount of about 219 acres in order to provide education, conservation, and recreation uses of the property. • • • 192-02 Section 2. That the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas will attempt to expand city ownership or control of property upstream and downstream of Wilson Springs Business Park along Clabber Creek and its tributary streams, where feasible, for education, conservation, birding and recreation uses, thereby minimizing adverse environmental impacts on property to be leased to Audubon Arkansas PASSED and APPROVED this the 3'd day of December, 2002.
