The additional cost to the City (above the cost to be charged to projects or rearranged from contract services) associated with each of these positions should be minimal. The additional engineering position and the additional public construction inspector cost will be charged to capital projects. The City either contracts with an engineering firm to provide project design services and project inspection services or the work is performed in house by City staff. The cost of engineering services and project inspection services are funded in the capital project. Adding staff to perform more work in house should enable the City to contract the more complicated projects that require expertise that would be cost prohibitive for the City to have on staff. These positions would be in the Engineering Division. The Senior Secretary position is requested to enable the City to bring the work of updating our Code of Ordinance books. Currently, the City contracts this service with an outside publishing company. The last revision to the Code of Ordinance books was made in 1998 for ordinances adopted through July 15, 1997. The cost of this position would be offset, in part, by the planned expenditure for updating services. The position is proposed to be funded in General Fund in the City Clerk/Treasurer Division. The table below lists the cost of each of these additional positions.
