A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING ADDITIONAL PERSONNEL
FOR THE ENGINEERING DIVISION AND THE CITY
CLERK/TREASURER DIVISION.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE,
ARKANSAS:
Section 1. That two new positions, Staff Engineer and Project Construction Inspector,
are hereby approved for the Engineering Division; and one new position, Senior Secretary, is
approved for the City Clerk/Treasurer Division.

SUBJECT: Approval of an Additional Engineering Position, an Additional Public
Construction Inspector Position and a Senior Secretary Position
Approval is requested from City Council to add three positions for the 2001 budget year. The additional
cost to the City (above the cost to be charged to projects or rearranged from contract services) associated
with each of these positions should be minimal.
The additional engineering position and the additional public construction inspector cost will be charged
to capital projects. The City either contracts with an engineering firm to provide project design services
and project inspection services or the work is performed in house by City staff. The cost of engineering
services and project inspection services are funded in the capital project. Adding staff to perform more
work in house should enable the City to contract the more complicated projects that require expertise that
would be cost prohibitive for the City to have on staff. These positions would be in the Engineering
Division.
The Senior Secretary position is requested to enable the City to bring the work of updating our Code of
Ordinance books. Currently, the City contracts this service with an outside publishing company. The last
revision to the Code of Ordinance books was made in 1998 for ordinances adopted through July 15, 1997.
The cost of this position would be offset, in part, by the planned expenditure for updating services. The
position is proposed to be funded in General Fund in the City Clerk/Treasurer Division.
