DEPARTMENTAL CORRESPONDENCE 8 eu To: Thur: From: Date: Fayetteville City Council Fred Hanna, Mayor®r/ Mickey Jackson, Fire Chief May 18, 2000 RE: Bid Approval Request for New Fire Department Pumper On May 15, eight bids were received and opened for a new 1,250 gallon per minute pumper truck. The bid tally, lowest to highest, is as follows: 1. Pierce Manufacturing Company Basic Contender Series 2. Fire Apparatus Company Smeal Pumper on Spartan Chassis 3. Central States Fire Apparatus, LLC 4. Ferrara Fire Apparatus, Inc. 5. Pierce Mfg. Company Contender Plus Series 6. Barton Freightliner American LaFrance Pumper 7. Pierce Mfg. Co. Saber Series 8. Leeco - Emergency One Century II Series Pumper $188,832.00 $214,947.80 $215,578.00 $219,501.00 $223,584.00 $226,694.00 $229,409.00 $229,999.00 rn co Page 2 New Pumper Bids • Having thoroughly analyzed all the bids, I am recommending to you approval and acceptance of the bid of Central States Fire Apparatus in the amount of $209,096, ($215,578, less an allowance of $6,482 for "pre -paying" for the chassis upon its completion and delivery to their plant), as being the best bid overall. The lowest bid (Pierce Basic Contender), listed fourteen exceptions to our specifications, five of which were unacceptable. The next lowest bidder, Fire Apparatus of Memphis (Smeal), listed ten exceptions to our specifications, one of which was unacceptable (wrong transmission). Central States listed six exceptions, five of which were minor. The other, related to payment upon delivery, has been negotiated to an agreement on their part to accept our terms. The remaining bids seemed ok, but were all higher in price than the Central States bid. We have not previously purchased a truck from Central States. However, they have some of their trucks at other Departments in Northwest Arkansas, and I'm informed the satisfaction level is high among these users. I believe this purchase will serve us well. If you have comments or questions about this project, please do not hesitate to call me at 575-8365 (city ext. 365), or come by the office. Thank you for your consideration of this request.
