FAYETTEVILLE
THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS
DEPARTMENTAL CORRESPONDENCE
June 9, 1999
To: Fayetteville City Council
From: Don Bunn, Assistant Public Works Director
Thru: Charles Venable, Public Works Director
Fred Hanna, Mayor
Subject: Fox Hunter Road (County Road 75)
Request for Contribution Toward Paving Costs
Attached is a letter from Judge Jerry Hunton requesting that the City contribute a total of
$25,000.00 toward the paving of a 0.70 mile portion of Fox Hunter Road. The City's
contribution would be used to upgrade the paving surface from chip and seal to hot -mix
asphalt. Judge Hunton feels that since the traffic to and from the Paul Noland Wastewater
Treatment Facility constitutes a large portion of the traffic load on the road, it is reasonable
to ask the City to contribute toward the upgrade. The upgrade from chip and seal to hot -mix
asphalt will provide a longer lasting more durable driving surface which will stand up much
better to the heavier treatment plant traffic.
The Staff agrees with Judge Hunton and recommends that the Council approve the
expenditure of $25,000 to go toward providing a hot -mix surface for the portion of Fox
Hunter Road in question. I have attached a plat which shows the part of the road planned
for paving.
Funds for the project will come from Sales Tax Fund, Street Improvements.

Dear Mr. Venable:

WASHINGTON ON COUNTY. ARKANSAS

EXHIBIT A
Washington County has scheduled paving the remaining gravel portion of Fox Hunter Road
(CR 75) in 1999, a distance of .7 miles. Due to budget constraints, this will be a chip -seal project
that is scheduled to be paved in the next two to three weeks. As you know, a chip -seal surface is
routinely applied for residential roads with moderate traffic and lacks the structural strength
required for sustained truck traffic.
Since City trucks coming from Wyman Road to City property and the Paul Noland Treatment
Facility will constitute the majority of truck traffic, we are asking the City of Fayetteville to
contribute $25,000 to upgrade this section of road to a hot -mix overlay, which will result in a
much stronger and longer lasting road surface and alleviate much of the damage the trucks will
inflict.
Thank you for your consideration of this matter.
Sincerely yours,
Jerry Htfnton
Washington County Judge
