HomeMy WebLinkAbout89-98 RESOLUTION7 j 2B RESOLUTION NO 89-9:8 A RESOLUTION FINDING THAT THE REFERENDUM PETITION ON RESOLUTION 51-98, A RESOLUTION DECLARING THE HUMAN DIGNITY POLICY OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, WAS SIGNED BY THE REQUISITE NUMBER OF PETITIONERS; SETTING A DATE FOR THE REFERENDUM ELECTION; AND REQUESTING THE COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTION COMMISSIONERS TO PLACE THE REFERENDUM ON THE BALLOT. rc cc ` CO u' r -- -v 0 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS: Section 1 The City Council hereby finds that the referendum petition on Resolution 51- 98, a resolution declaring the Human Dignity Policy of the City of Fayetteville, was signed by the requisite number of signatures required by Amendment 7 of the Constitution of the State of Arkansas and the applicable Arkansas statutes. Section 7 The City Council hereby orders that in accord with said verified petition an election will be held at the next general election to be held on November 3, 1998 to determine by a vote of the qualified electors whether Resolution 51-98, a resolution declaring the Human Dignity Policy of the City of Fayetteville (attached hereto as Exhibit A) shall stand or be revoked. Section a In accord with A.C.A.§7-9-117, the City Council hereby requests the county Board of Election Commissioners to cause the Resolution 51-98 to be printed upon the ballot to be used in the November 3, 1998 general election followed by these words. WHEREAS, The City of Fayetteville wishes to promote a prevailing climate of faimess, justice and the inherent worth and dignity of all persons; and, WHEREAS, The City of Fayetteville believes that the quality of life is promoted by equal protection under the law for all citizens; and, WHEREAS, The City of Fayetteville believes that the human bonds of care and compassion between persons and within families is strengthened when respect and dignity is reflected in our laws; and, WHEREAS, The City of Fayetteville wishes to promote equal protection under the law, regardless of race, sex, religion, color, national origin, age, ancestry, familial status, sexual orientation, or disability. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS• Section 1. Equality in Fayetteville. The City of Fayetteville shall model for the community, and encourage all other institutions, organizations and businesses in the City to conduct their institutional behavior in a manner that promotes the values represented by the spirit of this resolution.
