A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING FAYETTEVILLE POLICE
CHIEF RICHARD WATSONS EFFORTS TO STOP UNDERAGE
DRINIUNG IN FAYETTEVILLE.
WHEREAS, underage drinking is a community problem in Fayetteville and other cities, -and,
WHEREAS, Fayetteville as a university community has a unique obligation to combat this
problem and;
WHEREAS, the strict enforcement of state and local liquor laws is essential if liquor sales
to minors are to be stopped and;
WHEREAS, Fayetteville Police Chief Richard Watson issued almost 300 citations and
arrests over the past year pertaining to underage drinking and;
WHEREAS, Chief Watson has expressed valid concerns over the seeming lack of
enforcement of state liquor laws by the State Alcohol Beverage Control Commission and;
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Fayetteville wishes to support Chief Watson
in his campaign against underage drinking.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS:
Section 1 The Mayor and City Council hereby commends and supports Fayetteville
Police Chief Richard Watson's efforts to stop underage drinking in Fayetteville.
