RESOLUTION NO. 6-96
A RESOLUTION COMMITTING THE CITY OF
FAYETTEVILLE TO BE A CO-SPONSOR OF THE NATIONAL
TOWN MEETING THAT WILL BE HELD BY "RENEW
AMERICA" TO DISCUSS ISSUES INVOLVING
ENVIRONMENTALLY "SOUND" ALTERNATIVES FOR
ADDRESSING FAYETTEVILLE'S GROWTH IN
POPULATION AND COMMERCE.
WHEREAS, the City of Fayetteville's citizens have expressed an interest in addressing
the environmental impact that the increase in population and commerce will have on
Fayetteville's ability to effectively and efficiently sustain its communities; and,
WHEREAS, the National Town Meeting which will be held on February 26, 1996 by
"Renew America" will give citizens of Fayetteville an opportunity to specifically address
environmental issues concerning preservation of life, interactions between businesses and
communities, education and other timely issues; and,
WHEREAS, the National Town meeting will give the City of Fayetteville an opportunity
to utilize a ninety -minute national video teleconference (the teleconference will link over sixty
cities across the United States) to focus on its local topic entitled "Strategies for a Growing
Economy in Northwest Arkansas;" and,
WHEREAS, the City of Fayetteville, as a Local Co -Sponsor will have the responsibility
of workmg closely with the community to create an event that involves local businesses,
community leaders, and environmental leaders.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS:
Section 1. That the City of Fayetteville is proud to be a Local Co -Sponsor of the
National Town Meeting and will provide a representative at the local site (the Center for
Continuing Education in Fayetteville) for a panel discussing "Strategies for a Growing Northwest
Arkansas."
