HomeMy WebLinkAbout126-94 RESOLUTIONRESOLUTION NO. 126-94 MICROFILMET) A RESOLUTION ENDORSING THE COUNTY -WIDE MILLAGE CAMPAIGN FOR PUBLIC LIBRARIES IN WASHINGTON COUNTY. WHEREAS, public lihraries are the institutions with the responsibility to provide lifelong learning opportunities; and WHEREAS, public libraries must provide books, periodicals, media, and information to meet the needs of citizens striving to improve the quality of life; and WHEREAS, public libraries cooperate with and support the community's educational institutions and economic development efforts; and WHEREAS, public libraries must have adequate funding to provide essential resources, staff, facilities, and technology to meet the needs of the people; and WHEREAS, national data reflects the local funding for the support of Arkansas' public libraries is the lowest in the nation; and WHEREAS, it is essential to Washington County's continued growth, health, and development to have well -funded, modern public libraries to provide information resources to all citizens; and WHEREAS, Washington County voters are being asked to increase the library millage from one (1) to two (2) mills on real and personal property in order to improve services of the public lihraries in Washington County. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS: Section 1. That the City of Fayetteville endorses improving public library services and encourages the citizens of Washington County to support the library on November 8, 1994. Section 2. That a copy of the resolution shall be provided to the Washington County Public Libraries Millage Committee and that such group shall he authorized to announce the fact of this endorsement. 4 Page 2 Resolution No. 126-94 October 18, 1994 PASSED AND APPROVED this 18th day of October , 1994.
