A RESOLUTION ACKNOWLEDGING THE NEED FOR
EXPANDED AIR PASSENGER SERVICE IN NORTHWEST
ARKANSAS; REQUESTING FAYETTEVILLE'S NON -
PARTICIPATION IN THE COOPERATIVE AGREEMENT;
STATING FAYETTEVII.LE'S SUPPORT FOR THE NEW
REGIONAI. AIRPORT AND AISO ITS INTENT TO
MAINTAIN DRAKE FIELD AS A VIABLE AIRPORT; AND TO
REITERATE FAYETTEVILLE'S COMMITMENT TO ASSIST
ANY DRAKE FIELD TENANT SHOULD THEY DESIRE TO
MOVE TO THE NEW AIRPORT.
WHEREAS, the City of Fayetteville is a member of the Northwest Arkansas Regional
Airport Authority; and
WHEREAS, the City of Fayetteville, in Resolution No. 90-92, acknowledged that
improved aviation facilities were needed to meet the future needs of the citizens of Fayetteville
and Northwest Arkansas; and
WHEREAS, the City of Fayetteville, in Resolution No. 90-92, stated its commitment
to assist in the orderly transition of any tenant, one or all, at Drake Field that states their desire
to move to a new airport; and
WHEREAS, the Regional Airport Authority, in consultation with the Federal Aviation
Admimstration, has proposed a Cooperative Agreement by and between the Governmental Units,
including the City of Fayetteville, which are members of the Airport Authority; and
WHEREAS, the City of Fayetteville desires to retain ownership and control of and
responsibility for its airport, Drake Field, and to let the free market determine the level and
location of air service for the region.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS:
Section 1. That the City of Fayetteville reiterates its acknowledgement that improved
aviation facilities must be constructed at Drake Field or a new airport within the region to meet
the future needs of the citizens of Fayetteville and Northwest Arkansas for expanded air
passenger.
Section 2. The City of Fayetteville, desiring to retain ownership and control of and
responsibility for the operation of Drake Field, respectfully requests that the Airport Authority
and the Federal Aviation Administration not seek the City of Fayetteville's participation m the
Cooperative Agreement.

Section 3. The City of Fayetteville states its support for the Regional Airport
Authority's plans to build a new regional airport and also states its intent to maintain Drake Field
as a viable airport and to let the free market determine the future of air service for the region.
Section 4. The City of Fayetteville reiterates its commitment to assist in the orderly
transition of any tenant, one or all, at Drake Field that states their desire to move to a new
airport.
