HomeMy WebLinkAbout47-91 RESOLUTIONRESOLUTION NO. 47-91 c- • A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE GENERAL ADMINISTRATION, ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES, PUBLIC WORKS AND PLANNING MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENTS. WHEREAS, the employees of the City of Fayetteville General Administration, Administrative Services, Public Works and Planning Management Departments are often asked to go far beyond the call of duty performing their assigned responsibilities, and; WHEREAS, the employees of those named departments are often subjected to a variety of ridicule and abuse from elements in the community for reasons far beyond their control, and; WHEREAS, the employees of those named departments are often IIunseen" in their efforts by the public at large, and; WHEREAS, the employees of those named departments continually strive for improvements to their operations and for the betterment of the City as whole, most notable the conduCt of numerous public hearings on a variety of issues, ranging from the budget to herbicide use; the initiation of numerous employee task forces to help make city operations more effective and efficient; the work done by the Economic Development Division in enhancing the various improvements in the South Industrial Park to make it more marketable; the countless hours spent by management working on various lawsuits that the city is involved in, most notably the incinerator suit and the Illinois River suit; the 1989 and 1990 "Distinguished Budget Presentation Award" from the Government Finance Officers Association; the 1988 and 1989 "Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting" from the Government Finance Officers Association; the implementation of a merit pay plan for all city employees; the implementation of a city-wide supervisory training program; the successful marketing and sale of a $33 million sales tax bond issue; the successful negotiation and implementation of water and sewer rate structure; the successful water supply agreement with the Wheeler community, and specifically the public meeting held for Wheeler residents to provide information to potentially new customers in order to make it easier for those customers to establish water service with the city; the upgrading of motor pool vehicles/equipment to more efficiently and effectively extend the overall life of the city's fleet; the education programs sponsored by the Animal Services Division that have helped initiate a community spay/neuter program, consistently high adoption/reclamation rates, and county fair share funding agreements; the services provided by Building Maintenance to various outside groups and agencies beyond the scope of their functions; the Public Works Department, and specifically the Street Division, response in May of 1989 to an emergency condition caused by a straight line storm which had severely hampered traffic flow 4 • and caused critical damage; the efforts of the Water Maintenance Division in providing exceptional response to emergency water breaks; the successful implementation of an enormously popular municipal recycling program; the implementation of a program to utilize Christmas trees as fish habitats in Beaver Lake; the efforts of the Sewer Division in providing exceptional response to emergency sewer overflows and breaks; the construction of two additional soccer fields at Walker Park North; the Gulley Park development of a Master Plan; the provision of significantly improved services to the City Planning Commission and the City Board of Adjustment/Sign Appeals; the initiation of urban planning educational packets for the City Board of Directors, the Planning Commission, and to staff 'of other departments; the issuance of permits and completion of inspections for over $54 million in construction in 1990; the state certification of all inspectors; the implementation of the Concentrated Code Enforcement Program; the reorganization of the Residential Rehabilitation Program with a focus on neighborhood revitalization; the initiation of the city's first Rental Rehabilitation Program; the initiation of highly successful Elderly Taxi Program, and the many other "achievements" by the many dedicated employees of these departments. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARRANSAS: 1 Section 1.
