A RESOLUTION ENCOURAGING THE DEPARTMENT OF
POLLUTION CONTROL AND ECOLOGY COMMISSION TO
DEVELOP A LIST OF THOSE RIVERS AND STREAMS
WITHIN THE STATE OF ARKANSAS WHICH ARE
ENDANGERED, THREATENED ,OR VULNERABLE TO
POLLUTION."
WHEREAS, the preservation of Arkansas precious water resources
is essential.to th&well=being of the'citizens of Fayetteville as
well as all of the people of Arkansas;'and r
WHEREAS, the staff of the Arkansas Pollution Control & Ecology
Commission has the necessary_ expertise and resources to determine
those rivers and streams within the State which are endangered,
threatened, or vulnerable to pollution; and
WHEREAS, the identification of such vulnerable, threatened or
endangered streams is vital to the citizens of Arkansas in
determining where to focus scarce corrective resources, where to
prevent pollution problems and where to encourage development
compatible with the high quality of our existing water resources;
and
WHEREAS, the City of Fayetteville is uniquely sensitive to the
pollution of water resources as evidenced by Fayetteville's state
of the art sewage treatment. plant.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF
FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS:
Section 1. That the Board of Directors hereby encourages
the Department of Pollution Control & Ecology Commission to develop
a list of those rivers and streams within the State of Arkansas
which are endangered, threatened or vulnerable to pollution and to
instruct the commission staff to do all things necessary to develop
the necessary criteria and research needed to determine such rivers
and streams.
