HomeMy WebLinkAbout93-86 RESOLUTIONRESOLUTION ND. 93-86 A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF AN ENHANCED 9-1-1 EMERGENCY ACCESS TELEPHONE NUMBER FOR THE RESIDENTS OF WASHINGTON COUNTY, ARKANSAS. WHEREAS, the Fayetteville Board of Directors has determined that it would be in the public interest to shorten the time and simplify the method required for local residents to request and receive emergency aid; and WHEREAS, the provision of a single, primary three digit emergency number through which fire •suppression, rescue, disaster and major emergency services, emergency medical and law enforcement services may be quickly and efficiently obtained, would provide a significant contribution to response by simplifying notification of these emergency service responders; and WHEREAS, such a simplified means of procuring the aforesaid emergency services will result in saving of life, a reduction in the destruction of property, quicker apprehension of criminals, and ultimately the saving of moneys; and WHEREAS, the establishment of a uniform emergency telephone number is a matter of concern to all residents of Washington County, Arkansas; and WHEREAS, the emergency number 9-1-1 has been made available at the national level for implementation throughout the United States. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECPORSS OF THE CITY OF FAY ITEVILE, ARRANSAS: That the Board of Directors hereby supports the establishment of an enhanced 9-1-1 emergency access telephone number for the residents of Washington County, Arkansas with Public Service Answering Points (PSAPs) to be located in the emergency communication centers of the City of Fayetteville, the City of Springdale, and the Washington County Sheriff's Department to be funded and operated according to the provisions of Act 683 of 1985 including a 5% assessment on the line -charge for residential and commercial telephone customers in Washington County, Arkansas. PASSED AND APPROVED this 2nd day of September , 1986.
