A RESOLUTION OPPOSING 3.66,..A CABLE COMMUNICATIONS
BILL:
WHEREAS, local and state governments have traditionally
awarded and regulated franchises for cable television systems
in order to -insure the provision of efficient cable services
at reasonable rates to residents; and
WHEREAS, S.66 compromises the protection which existing
franchise agreements and local -.franchising authorities
provide to cable consumers.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS:
Section 1:. That the Board of Directors of the City of
Fayetteville, Arkansas hereby strongly opposes S.66 and any
similar federal legislation that fails to protect the interests
of cable consumers and the rights and responsibilities of
local franchising authorities to serve those interests.
Section 2: A copy of this resolution shall be forwarded
by the City Clerk to all members of the Arkansas Congressional
delegation..
