HomeMy WebLinkAbout64-82 RESOLUTIONRESOLUTION NO. 4 -Jz A RESOLUTION CALLING ON THE U.S., U.S.S.R., AND ALL OTHER NATIONS TO FREEZE PRODUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS AND TO MUTUALLY REDUCE THE SUPPLY OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS: Section 1. That the Board of Directors hereby joins with the governing bodies of other cities and with the several state legislatures that have endorsed the call upon the U.S., U.S.S.R., and all other nations to stop the nuclear arms race as a move to improve national and international security. Specifically, the Board of Directors asks the United States, the Soviet Union, and all other nations to adopt an immediate, mutual freeze on all further testing, production, and deployment of nuclear weapons, to mutually reduce the supply of nuclear weapons, and to implement inspection procedures to verify compliance. The Board of Directors believes a mutual freeze and production of nuclear weapons followed by a mutual reduction in the supply of nuclear weapons to be an essential verifiable first step toward lessening the risk of nuclear war. Section 2. The City Clerk is hereby directed to send a copy of this resolution to the following: President of the United States; Vice President of the United States; Speaker of the House of Representatives; Armed Services Committees; Senate and House of Representatives; Senators and Congressmen from Arkansas; Senators Kennedy and Hatfield; U. S. Ambassador to the United Nations; Soviet Ambassador to the .United States; Governor of Arkansas; members of Arkansas State Legislature from Washington County; and Washington County Quorom Court.
