HomeMy WebLinkAbout16-82 RESOLUTION• RESOLUTION N0. /6 —gat A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE ARKANSAS DEPARTMENT OF POLLUTION CONTROL AND ECOLOGY TO GIVE INTENSIVE, DETAILED STUDY TO THE SANITARY LANDFILL APPLICATION OF HAROLD PARSONS FOR PROPERTY LOCATED NEAR BEAVER LAKE SO AS TO PROTECT THE QUALITY OF THE CITY'S WATER SUPPLY. WHEREAS, Beaver Lake is the water supply source for the City of Fayetteville and other municipalities in north- west Arkansas; and WHEREAS, Mr. Harold Parsons has filed an application with the Department of Pollution Control and Ecology for a permit to operate a sanitary landfill on:property located less than a mile from Beaver Lake and above Beaver Water District's water supply intake; and WHEREAS, the Fayetteville Board of Directors opposes approving any sanitary landfill or any septic tank system which has the potential of adversely affecting the water quality of Beaver Lake. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS: That the Board of Directors hereby requests the Arkansas Department of Pollution Control and Ecology not to approve the sanitary landfill permit application of Harold Parsons for property near Beaver Lake without first conducting an intensive, detailed study to ensure that the proposed sanitary landfill will not affect the water quality of Beaver Lake. The Board of Directors is very concerned that a landfill on the proposed site could adversely affect the water quality of Beaver Lake.
