A RESOLUTION RATIFYING THE SUBMISSION OF A GRANT
APPLICATION TO THE LEVI STRAUSS FOUNDATION FOR
FUNDS TO FINANCE THE FENCING AND EQUIPMENT AT
GREAT HOUSE PARK.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF
FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS:
That the Board of Directors hereby ratifies and approves
the grant application marked Exhibit "A" attached hereto and
made a part hereof to Levi Strauss Foundation for funds to
finance fencing and equipment at Great House Park.

The Parks and Recreation Department is within the City of Fayetteville
governing system. It is operated from a budget included in the general
funds of the City's Budget. This budget helps support the Youth Center,
the Adult Center, and a Community Center, as well as provide for park
maintenance and operations of the City Swimming Pool. Staff includes
Dale Clark -Director; Bob Braswell -Parks Maintenance Supervisor; Connie

Edmonston-Administrative Assistant; and four full-time park maintenance
personnel. The objectives of the Department is 1) To maintain a long
range plan for the development of an adequate parks system which will
meet the demands and needs of the community; 2) To anticipate and
formulate recreation programs of interest to the community thus providing
areas for f tt �7� gr and to enjoy their leisure time; and

Describe the problem you want to address, the condition you want to improve
or change by this project.
This park is located adjacent to Levi Strau% Plant. We wist to make
improvements to benefit the area residents as well as provide recreational
opportunities for Levi Strauss employees. The Department plans to
make the following improvements: 1. To build a foot bridge across a_,
small creek that,lead.sYthe parking lot to the park''s'play area;
2. To build a fence along the city -Levi Straus property line to keep

The goals of the project is to enhance the beauty of the park and to add
facilities that make the park more useable to the area residents and
to Levi Straus's employees. The duration of the project is three
• months until completion.
The Greathouse Park is a neighborhood park that serves the people who
live in a four -to -five block area of that park. We describe a neighbor-
hood park as "A Play or picnic area near the center of a neighborhood in
which there are facilities for a variety of recreational activities."

The population is a medium density residential area with
several apartment and duplex housing in the area. It is
classified as a low to moderate income area. The Park is also
used by Levi Straussfor lunch hour and after work recreational
activities.

Alternative plans for funds would be to fund a portion of the project
from this years city parks budget and the remainder from Future
years budget.
The Parks and Recreation Department has a maintenance staff that looks
after the newly installed equipment in the future.
