A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PARTICIPATION OF THE CITY
OF FAYETTEVILLE IN THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A REGIONAL SOLID
WASTE AUTHORITY.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY
OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS:
Section 1. The Board of Directors hereby authorizes the
participation by the City of Fayetteville in a Regional Solid
Waste Authority.
Section 2. That the Board of Directors hereby appropriates
$1,500.00 from the City's Sanitation Fund to be paid to the
Northwest Arkansas Regional Planning Commission and to be used
to defray expenses incurred in the organization of a Regional
Solid Waste Authority.
Section 3. The Board of Directors hereby appoints City
Manager Donald L. Grimes to the Organizational Committee of the
Regional Solid Waste Authority.

Dear Chairman Melton:
The Board of Directors of the City of Fayetteville, at their regular
meeting held on June 5, 1979, discussed the solid waste problem confronting
the City and agreed with the executive committee of the Northwest Arkansas
Regional Planning Commission finding and conclusion that the needs of its
constituents could best be served through the formation of a regional Solid
Waste Authority which would serve the Benton and Washington County area.
The City Board pledged its "seed funding" of $1,500 to be used for the nec-
essary fees involved in the establishment of such an authority and under-
stands that if funds remain after the authority is established, they will
receive their proportionate reimbursement share. The City Board also ap-
pointed me to serve on the commission's organizational committee for the
creation of the Solid Waste Authority.
The Fayetteville City Board stands ready to enter into the formal agree-
ments with other units of government in the two county area and pledges its
support to the rapid creation of the authority and its future work in dealing
with the solid waste problem of Northwest Arkansas.
