HomeMy WebLinkAbout47-79 RESOLUTION• RESOLUTION NO. A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION TO INSTALL AN APPROACH SURVEILLANCE RADAR SYSTEM AT THE FAYETTEVILLE MUNICIPAL AIRPORT. WHEREAS, Fayetteville Municipal Airport is located in mountainous terrain; and WHEREAS, the climate of the City of Fayetteville is such that cloudy and foggy conditions frequently exist at said airport; and WHEREAS, the air traffic in Northwest Arkansas is a mixture of commercial traffic and private planes entering and leaving the Fayetteville Municipal Airport and several smaller airports in the Northwest Arkansas area; and WHEREAS, all of the above conditions necessitate the installation of an Approach Surveillance Radar System at the Fayetteville Municipal Airport to insure air traffic safety. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS: That the Board of Directors hereby urgently requests the Federal Aviation Administration to install an Approach Surveillance Radar System at the Fayetteville Municipal Airport to insure airport safety at said airport. Building, Wiley Post Airport Bethany, OK 73008 Dear Mr. McBride: 72701 1501] 521-7700 June 8, 1979 I am enclosing a copy of a resolution which was adopted by the Fayette- ville City Board of Directors at a regular meeting held on June 5, 1979, concerning the need for an approach surveillance radar system at the Fayetteville Municipal Airport. As expressed in the resolution, we feel there are severe safety problems in the area of Drake Field and we urgently request the installation of a radar system so that we might minimize the possibility for aircraft related accidents. We have been told of several near -misses in this area in recent weeks and we feel it is our responsibility as public officials to call this to your attention and request the necessary equipment to minimize the possibilities for serious accidents. It will be sincerely appreciated if you will route copies of my letter and the attached resolution to the proper F.A.A. authorities so this matter can receive prompt attention.
