HomeMy WebLinkAbout01-79 RESOLUTIONRESOLUTION NO./-rf • A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO PUBLIC UTILITY COMPANY EMPLOYEES FOR EMERGENCY SERVICES RENDERED DURING THE 1979 NEW YEAR'S WEEKEND ICE STORM. WHEREAS, the Northwest Arkansas area, and Fayetteville in particular, was ravaged over the New Year's weekend by one of the worst ice storms in recent decades; and WHEREAS, this ice storm made driving conditions extremely hazardous and caused untold damage. to trees and power lines; and WHEREAS, in many cases, only the dedication and perseverance of hundreds of public service workers kept a potentially tragic situation from developing; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE: That the City Board, on behalf of the citizens of Fayetteville, wishes to express a heartfelt "Thanks for a job well done" to the dedicated employees of Southwestern Electric Power Company, Ozarks Electric Cooperative Corporation, the Fayetteville Street Department, The Arkansas National Guard, Warner Cable Company, Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, Arkansas Western Gas Company, and the Fayetteville Police Department, who spent their New Year's weekend working ceaselessly to restore power to homes and businesses, keeping the streets passable for essential traffic, and maintaining order during crisis conditions.
