WHEREAS, Marion R. Orton was first appointed to the Fayetteville
City Board of Directors on November 30, 1970; and
WHEREAS, she was subsequently returned to office by the voters,
by overwhelming margins, at the City Board elections of
1972, 1974, and 1976; and
WHEREAS, Director Orton's seven years on the City Board have been
characterized by unselfish dedication to the principles
of open and responsive city government; protection of the
environment and the unspoiled beauty of Northwest Arkansas;
freedom of information; and public participation in local
governmental affairs; and
WHEREAS, Director Orton has announced her resignation from the
Board of Directors so that she may accompany her husband
overseas;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF
FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS:
Section 1. That the City Board wishes, on behalf of the
people she has served, to thank Marion R. Orton for her
contributions both as City Director and as Mayor of
Fayetteville;
Section 2. That the City Board, with respect, admiration,
and affection, offers wishes for the best of good fortune
to the family of Bill and Marion Orton in all their future
endeavors.
