RESOLUTION NO. 420-91
A RESOLUTION OPPOSING PROPOSED LEGISLATION THAT WOULD
REQUIRE MEMBERS OF A MUNICIPALITY'S GOVERNING BODY TO BE
ELECTED FROM SINGLE -MEMBER WARDS.
WHEREAS, the citizens of Fayetteville have chosen a method
of electing members of the City Board of Directors whereby city-
wide elections are held and a majority of the Directors are
required to reside in different wards; and
WHEREAS, this method of electing members of the Board of
Directors has provided both effective city government and
effective representation of the city's citizens; and
WHEREAS,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS:
That the Board of Directors opposes current proposals
in the Arkansas Legislature that would require members of a
municipality's governing body to be elected from single -member
wards.
