HomeMy WebLinkAbout20-77 RESOLUTION40,14 • RESOLUTION NO. 420-91 A RESOLUTION OPPOSING PROPOSED LEGISLATION THAT WOULD REQUIRE MEMBERS OF A MUNICIPALITY'S GOVERNING BODY TO BE ELECTED FROM SINGLE -MEMBER WARDS. WHEREAS, the citizens of Fayetteville have chosen a method of electing members of the City Board of Directors whereby city- wide elections are held and a majority of the Directors are required to reside in different wards; and WHEREAS, this method of electing members of the Board of Directors has provided both effective city government and effective representation of the city's citizens; and WHEREAS, Rule premises to make local the Board of Directors believes in the Home that each city's citizens should have the right decisions. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS: That the Board of Directors opposes current proposals in the Arkansas Legislature that would require members of a municipality's governing body to be elected from single -member wards.
