HIGHWAY 71 IN THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS: Section 1. That the Board of Directors hereby endorses iri concept the proposal of the Arkansas State Highway Commission to four -lane U. S. Highway 71 in the City of Fayetteville, and feels that this proposed construction will greatly enhance the safe and efficient flow of vehicular traffic within our city limits. Section 2. That while the Board of Directors endorses and supports the concept of the proposed improvements, the government of the City of Fayetteville nevertheless feels that certain comments and suggested modifications should be given; specifically, (a) The Board of Directors heartily approves of the installation of a diamond -type interchange where the Highway 71 Bypass crosses over Mt. Comfort Road. This addition has been needed since the Bypass was built, as our Mt. Comfort Road residents must travel many extra miles to reach a Bypass access point; (b) The City Board asks that any overpass at Johnson Road be con- structed so as to allow the future four-laning of Johnson Road, (c) The City requests that any parallel access road or service road that is constructed on the east side of Highway 71 between Eighteenth Street and Highway 62 West be relocated to coincide with the extension of Razorback Road, as such a relocation would be better utilized by the heavy industrial traffic in the area, and such relocation would be consistent with the city's Master Street Plan; and, finally, (d) The City Board of Directors cannot support that portion of the planned construction that would partially deny Highway 71 access to the residents of Centerbrook Addition. As now planned, a right -turn -in/right- turn-out entranceway would mean that residents of the area would have to travel North College Avenue to its intersection with Highway 71 and then turn south to get to their homes, and they would have to travel south on Highway 71 Bypass to Highway 112 to leave the area. The minimum change in the construction plans that the City Board can accept would be the construction of an access or service road connecting Centerbrook Addition with Johnson Road. 00 PASSED AND APPROVED THIS %i, DAY OF Q t&cnttw , 1976.
