A RESOLUTION URGING THE ARKANSAS GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO
ADOPT ENABLING LEGISLATION FOR A MUNICIPAL SALES TAX.
WHEREAS, municipalities in the State of Arkansas are
in desperate need of additional revenues in order to main-
tain and improve essential municipal services; and
WHEREAS, the Arkansas Constitution severely limits
the taxing power of municipalities; and
WHEREAS, a municipal sales tax is a feasible, practical,
and fair method of providing additional revenues for
municipalities; and
WHEREAS, there is presently a bill before the Arkansas
General Assembly which, if adopted, would enable municipalities
to levy a sales tax.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS:
That the Board of Directors strongly urges the Arkansas
General Assembly to enact enabling legislation for a municipal
sales tax.
