A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE 4-H CLUB YOUTHS OF PRAIRIE GROVE, ARKANSAS
WHEREAS the Confederate Cemetery on the slopes of Mount Sequoyah has been,
through the years, one of the most beautiful and hallowed grounds within the
City of Fayetteville and is a site much treasured and respected by many resi-
dents and visitors to the City, and

WHEREAS, the ancient stone wall protecting the cemetery had in recent
years been broken and was suffering further wasting and deterioration, and
WHEREAS, in 1973 the 4-H Club youths of Prairie Grove, exemplifying the
interest of all Washington County in respecting and preserving this heritage
which our forefathers planned and planted in reverence€?of their departed
and in hope for us, their future, did undertake to restore and repair the old
stone wall, and
WHEREAS, in October,.1974 their restoration work was completed;
BE IT NOW RESOLVED by the Board of Directors of the City of Fayetteville
to give this greatful expression of thanks to Mr. Elbert Newell, his Prairie
Grove 4-H Club leaders, and each and every young member who by their
far-sighted and perseveringg''labors have restored to the citizens of our
City and of Washington County the wholeness and the protection of this old
stone wall surrounding the Confederate Cemetery and have thus made all our
lives the richer for their having passed this way.
