RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the Counties of Washington, Benton and Madison of
the State of Arkansas have heretofore been designated as the
Fayetteville Division of the United States District Court of
the Western District of Arkansas; and
WHEREAS, no terms of said Court are held in said Division
due to lack of a Federal Building with Court facilities; and
WHEREAS, the volume of cases originating within the terri-
torial limits of said Divisbn and triable in the United States
District. Court for the Western District of Arkansas has reached
such proportions that such facilities are necessary and justi-
fied for the use and convenience of the citizens of said Division;
and
WHEREAS, the old Post Office Building located in the center
of the square in Fayetteville, Arkansas, has recently been Vacated
. by reason of the opening of a new Post Office Building.in said
City; and
WHEREAS, there are many Federal agencies operating in the City
of Fayetteville with offices in various sections and various build-
ings; and
WHEREAS, the removal of the Post Office from the business
section of the City has resulted in a hardship and inconvenience to
the citizens in the main business section of the City; and
WHEREAS, it has been determined by the agents of the Federal
Government that the old Post Office Building cannot be converted
for Federal Court facilities and other Governmental usage,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City
of Fayetteville, Arkansas, that this organization requests the ap-
propriate Federal Officials to consider the old Post Office Building
located in the center of the square in Fayetteville, Arkansas, or

some other appropriate location be utilized for the sight of a
new Federal Building, with said building to include Federal
•
Court Facilities, and any other.Govermental agencies which are
deemed appropriate.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Clerk of the City
of Fayetteville, Arkansas, be authorized to furnish copies of
this resolution to the Honorable Harvey M. Johnsen, Chief Judge,
United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, Omaha 2,
Nebraska; Honorable John E. Miller, Judge of the United States
District Court of the Western District of Arkansas, Fort Smith,
Arkansas; Senators J. W. Fulbright, and John L. McClellan; and
Congressman James W. Trimble.
THIS RESOLUTION adopted unanimously by the City Council of
the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas, at it's regular meeting on
the 22nd day of April, 1963.
