HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-40 RESOLUTIONRESOLUTION • WHEREAS, residents of incorporated cities and towns who constitute • only 31.2% of the population of Arkansas, are shown by surveys of the State Highway Department to be paying 57.6% of the motor vehicle registration fees, 62,9% of the gasoline tax and 64.8% of miscellaneous highway revenues, and t . WIEREAS,\municipal streets bear 26.2% of the total vehicular traffic in Arkansas as\compared with only 15.6% on county roads, and WHEREAS, none of the gasoline tax has been used to maintain muni- cipal streets while county roads received $1,227,451 during the year 1939-1940, and WHEREAS, city and town revenues in recent years have declined while the demands for municipal services have increased thereby creating an acute financial problem for cities and towns. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVE) that we, the City Council of Paye4 l„le in expressing the sentiments of the motor vehicle owners and citizens of the City, Waal Fayetteville , do hereby memorialize the Governor and members of the 1941 General Assembly to;remedy this unfair dis- tribution of the gasoline tax receipts by making available to cities and towns, through a city tiurnback, a part of the gasoline tax revenues which their own residents are already paying -- these funds to be used r improvement and maintenance of municipal streets.
