Summary
1. Sophia Stephenson(Washington County Environmental Affairs) gave a
presentation on the services provided by the County's Household Hazardous
Waste Drop Off Facility.
2. Nancy Varvil discussed how other cities and countries (China) have banned the
use of plastic grocery bags and the prospects for doing something with regards to
plastic and styrofoam in Fayetteville. Nancy volunteered to lead a subcommittee
of the ECC in pursuing this effort.
3. Stephanie described a new group called"The Garden Group"in the area that is
performing voluntary waste cleanups in public areas. She will provide more
information on these groups as it comes to her.
4. There were also discussions regarding mosquito abatement including the fact that
the city will not spray in neighborhoods.
5. There are two positions that will be up for re-appointment in June 2008. Current
members filling those positions are Scott Longing (Science Discipline) and Kent
Landrum.
