Summary
1. Members described their background and personal interest in environmental
issues.
2. The ECC formally endorsed the work of the Low Impact Development Task
Force and officially appointed Phil Penny as the ECC representative to that group.
3. John Coleman provided an overview of the progress made by the Low Impact
Development Task Force including:
a. Creating "qualifying standards" for developments that want to incorporate
Low Impact Development Technology
b. Reviewing current ordinances to encourage LID
c. Following progress on the LID Design Manual being generated by the U
of A Community Design Center
d. Develop maintenance criteria for LID technology.
4. John Coleman gave an overview of the Mayor's Ad-Hoc Committee on Energy
Efficient Construction including:
a. Looking at New and Remodeled Residential/Commercial Construction
b. Currently focused on new residential construction and the development of
a"carbon scorecard"that will grade the energy efficiency of homes in
Fayetteville.
5. Jeff Beaver discussed his interest in energy issues and how that will impact the
community. This led to talk about mercury in compact fluorescent light bulbs and
problems that we may be facing in the near future. The Committee also talked
about the Public Service Commission's role in energy efficiency and what is and
is not being done at the state level.
