HomeMy WebLinkAbout2007-08-16 - Agendas Summary — Environmental Concerns Committee (ECC) ECC Meeting, August 16th, 2007 I. Brian Pugh, Engineer- Commercial Recycling Programs a. Brian discussed the recycling options for commercial entities, including the Community Drop-Off Center, Igloos for paper or plastic bottles, and commercial cardboard containers. b. Brian also discussed the Solid Waste & Recycling Division's annual revenue stream and the present barriers for expanding the program. II. Kent Landrum- Final Draft of the ECC Environmental Policy Statement a. Mr. Landrum read the draft of the ECC Environmental Policy Statement b. The Committee voted to accept the concepts of the policy statement and have agreed to vote on a recommendation to Council at the next meeting. c. Alderman Thiel will work with the City Attorney, Kit Williams, to draft appropriate language for the statement. III. John Coleman, Sustainability Coordinator—Green Building Policy a. John asked the Committee to recommend for approval by City Council a Green Building Policy that would require all new, city-owned buildings greater than 5,000 square feet to achieve a minimum of LEED-Silver as certified by the US Green Building Council. b. The Committee voted to recommend the Green Building Policy be approved by City Council. IV. Discussion about membership and chairmanship a. Aldermen Thiel will continue to chair the Committee. b. John Coleman has agreed to attend all meetings as the City Staff representative and to draft and distribute the agenda for future meetings.
