Meeting Minutes
January 10, 2008
1. Introduction of Stephanie Shepherd who was recently appointed to the
Environmental Concerns Committee. Stephanie brings a wealth of knowledge
to the committee through her current participation in the Environmental
Dynamics Doctoral Program at the U of A and her studies of local headwaters
in the Illinois River watershed.
2. Sarah Lewis, Environmental Dynamics Doctoral Student
a. Sarah gave a presentation on Low Impact Development and the
environmental and economic benefits associated with this technology.
b. Low Impact Development is a stormwater management and land
development strategy applied at the parcel and subdivisions scale that
emphasizes conservation and use of on-site natural features integrated
with engineered, small-scale hydrologic controls to more closely
mimic pre-development hydrologic functions.
3. The Committee also discussed the Low Impact Development Task Force that
has been developed to analyze current City code requirements that prohibit
developers from using LID technologies. Phillip Penny(ECC Member) has
volunteered to join the LID Task Force and represent the ECC.
4. Kent Landrum(ECC Member) gave an update on riparian zones in
Fayetteville and how they are affected by ongoing construction projects.
Specifically, Kent pointed to deficiencies at the mixed-use project across 151h
Street from Baum Stadium. It was agreed that he would contact appropriate
City Staff to rectify this issue.
