BACKGROUND: The City recently installed an electric vehicle charging station near the Fayetteville Square in the newly improved City parking lot across Mountain St. from City Hall(behind the old KNWA Building). This level 2 charging station was generously donated by Ozarks Electric Cooperative. The City of Fayetteville used grant funds to pay for the installation and is responsible for the monthly electricity usage. One parking space adjacent to the charging station will be reserved for charging electric vehicles only. Other adjacent spaces will be available for charging but not reserved for electric vehicles only. Electric vehicles will be required to pay for parking similar to all non-electric vehicles. DISCUSSION: The EV charging station that has been installed will service three parking spaces and staff proposes that one of these spaces is posted with signage that reserves it for use by electric vehicles only. This ordinance change will allow the Parking Management Division to enforce the parking of electric vehicles only in the designated space.
