Call to Order Glenda Patterson, Chair Members Present: Madison, LeVois, Patterson, Dye, Lipinski, and Shepard Members Absent: Thomas 2. Approval of February 10, 2016 UFAB Minutes Glenda Patterson, Chair UFAB Motion: Madison motioned to approve the minutes with corrections sent to John Scott, Motion passed, 5-0-0. 3. Discuss Roberts Rules of Order Glenda Patterson, Chair • Provide staff with at least two weeks' notice for a new agenda item. • Limit talks to ten minutes, conduct roll call, and recognition of speakers by the chair. 4. Native or Invasive Plant Presentation Damon Lipinski Lipinski presented information on the Osage orange tree. He discussed the following: 1. Common names. 2. General appearance. 3. Fruit and Flowers. 4. Origin and growing range of plant. 5. Practical uses for wood. 5. UFAB Annual report to City Council Staff Rough Draft Display—Derek Linn Linn presented the draft to the board for approval. Linn asked for any suggestions / edits from the board. Patterson asked if there was a goal regarding the adequate canopy coverage for the city. Mauling Address: 113 W. Mountain Street www.fayetteville-ar.gov Fayetteville,AR 72701 Linn replied that city has not adopted an official an official goal, but the code provides a recommendation of 40%. Patterson suggested adding the recommendation to the report. Madison expressed her concern about the lack of education to the public regarding use of"mulch volcanoes". She also mentioned she would like to see the expansion of edible plants around the city like the ones planted at the Yvonne Richardson Community Center. 6. Staff Reports and Updates Staff Grant Status-John Staff won the grant for the median plantings. He anticipates the project to be completed by end of April. The grant will go before City Council for approval to match the grant by 50%. Raisin Cane's Lot Split- John Raising Cane's did get the lot split approved. One part is a tree preservation area that can be sold and has to be recognized as tree preservation area. Staff will continue to monitor the area. Tree City Status- John The City of Fayetteville was awarded the status of being part of TREE CITY USA. Two signs will be posted, one in Walker Park and the other will be at Veterans Park. Invasive Plant BGO opportunity- John Staff met with the BGO regarding invasive plants and their desire to become a center for education regarding invasive plants. Scott asked if the board would like to be a part of the process. The board expressed interest and a desire to help with educational opportunities for the public. Sustainable Landscape Awards- John Staff is looking to increase the amount of entries by proposing an edible garden component to the competition. Madison expressed her concern with allowing Fayetteville Public Schools to enter the garden category of the competition. Other info Derek Linn informed the board that he will be leaving his position with the city. He thanked the board for all their guidance over the years. 7. Other Business or New business 8.
