HomeMy WebLinkAbout2009-02-09 - MinutesADVERTISING AND PROMOTION COMMISSION •REGULAR MEETING February 9, 2009 Commissioners Present: Bob Davis, Lioneld Jordan, Tim Freeman, Pat Gazzola, Maudie Schmitt, and Robert Rhoads Commissioners Absent: Neal Crawford Staff Present: Sandra Bennett, Allyson Twiggs Dyer, Kelli Nixon and Marilyn Heifner CALL TO ORDER Chairman Pat Gazzola called the regular monthly meeting of the Fayetteville Advertising and Promotion Commission to order on February 9 at the Fayetteville Town Center at 2:00 p.m. INTRODUCTION OF NEW COMMISSIONER Chairman Gazzola introduced Mayor Lioneld Jordan who will fill the city council position vacated by Dan Coody. MINUTES Moved by Davis, second by Schmitt to approve the minutes of the January 12, 2009 meeting. Motion carried. HMR COLLECTIONS • Marilyn presented HMR collections for January. Collections were down -4.48%. Hotel HMR revenue for January was down from -20.60% from last January. Restaurant revenue was down in January -8.80%. FINANCIAL REPORT Keith Glass presented financial statements for December 2008. Figures presented were preliminary and will be updated with information needed from the city for final year end figures and for city audit. Motion to approve the preliminary financials by Davis, second by Freeman. Motion carried. CITY ATTORNEY City Attorney Kit Williams reported that the City Prosecutor's office collected $8,824.67 in January. The number of cases pending remains over 20 with new cases outpacing paid -in -full cases. Accounting Division is still experiencing a problem with a few restaurants not submitting the proper HMR forms. CLINTON HOUSE MUSEUM REPORT Museum attendance was 71 visitors in January. Activities and scheduled events for January, February and March were reviewed. VISITOR BUREAU . Allyson Twiggs Dyer reported on the first annual Restaurant Week. It was off to an icy start, but restaurants had good specials. The VB will run again in August. Allyson bid on the Keep Arkansas Beautiful commission meeting in July, Arkansas parks & Recreation meeting in 2010, Medical Directors conference, and 3 baseball tournaments. The Farmer's Market conference was successful. Julie is attending Bank Travel Management • conference. The UA Recruits are using Fayetteville hotels again. Maudie complemented the CVB for Restaurant Week. TOWN CENTER Sandra Bennett reported sales goals for January were down. The Town Center hosted a bridal Fair in January, "Here Comes the Bride." Over 145 brides and 45 vendors participated in the event. The Town Center is controlling expenses since revenue is down. EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR REPORT Marilyn reported that she attended the Ft. Worth Home & Garden Show. She has been working with the agency for the 09 marketing plan and on content management for the Town Center website. We have received notification that the 501 (c) 3 was received by the IRS and is in the initial review process. Response should be back from the IRS within 60 days from their receipt which was Jan. 6. AGENCY REPORT Mike Sells said unveiled the new logo and new ads and concept copy for the Advertising and Promotion Commission. The concept plays off of the sports themes, i.e. Home of Top Draft Picks (Dickson St. entertainment district), Watch the Hogs Run Wild (Bikes, Blues and BBQ). • The agency is working on ad sales for the Visitor Guide. Commissioners are encouraged to advertise in the guide. Leigh presented the latest web statistics. OLD BUSINESS None NEW BUSINESS None OTHER The Commission adjourned into Executive Session for review of the Executive Director. Upon completion of the Executive Session, Commissioner Gazzola reconvened the meeting. Moved by Rhoads, second by Freeman to raise the salary of the executive director to $72,000. Motion carried.
