ABSENT: Joe Fennel, David McGeady, and Ching Mong The March meeting of the Advertising and Promotion Commission was called to order on March 10, 2003, at the Fayetteville Town Center conference room at 2:00 p.m. by Chairman Bob Davis. MINUTES Moved by Shipley, second by Gazzola to approve the minutes of the February 10, 2002 meeting. Motion carried. FINANCIAL REPORT HMR tax collections for February were $115,941.65, an increase of 2.41% over last February. Tom Lonon, Scarbrough and Murtishaw presented the financial statements for January and February, 2003. Moved by Shipley, second by Coody. Motion carried. City Attorney Kit Williams reported that City Prosecutor Casey Jones collected $2,034.00 last • month and has worked out plea agreements to collect about $4,000 more in April. • DIRECTOR'S REPORT Marilyn Johnson reviewed her activities for the month of February. Inquiries are about the same as last year. The Northwest Arkansas Heritage Trail development is progressing. Routes associated with the Trail of Tears, the Butterfield Stage Coach Route and Civil War Troop Movements make up the primary network of the Trail Plan. AARP magazine has contacted Marilyn about an article for the spring. Town Center Alcohol service provider contract negotiations have been terminated. Maintenance Supervisor at the Town Center was terminated. Marilyn has reached telephone company regarding buried cable behind the Town Center. An engineer is supposed to contact her. Cox Communications have initially indicated that burying their cable will be approximately $18,000. She is awaiting their written estimate. CONVENTION AND VISITORS BUREAU REPORT Allyson Twiggs reviewed CVB activities. Smokin' Bones, a Darden restaurant, has contacted her about locating in Fayetteville. Fayetteville lost the bid for the Arkansas Cattlemen's Association meeting in 2004-2005. The Great Race will be here June 25 for a pit stop. Fayetteville will host a break at the Governor's Conference on Tourism in Ft. Smith. The NCAA Track Championships will meet this Saturday at Tyson Track Center. • TOWN CENTER REPORT Denise Bembenek presented the Town Center report. Completed events in February are up 150% over last year. Sales are up 27.2% for the month and 14.9% year to date. Denise has provided Charlotte Manual (city) with out of town caterers in order to collect HMR tax. Plaza lighting has been postponed until after the spring display of tulips on the plaza. Alcohol Service Policy addendum was included in agenda for Commissioners. The addendum asks specifically for clients to indicate their method of alcohol service and requirements for each. • • AGENCY REPORT Brian Clark reported ads were running on track for the spring placements. The Agency is excited about helping to showcase Fayetteville at the Governor's Conference on Tourism. Michael Clark will bring web results in April. A steady increase has been seen in the web visitors. Marilyn and agency have made a list of spring photography needed and that will begin shortly. OLD BUSINESS None NEW BUSINESS Appointment of New Commissioner Joe Fennel's term will expire on April 1. Three applications were received for A & P Commissioner: Neal Crawford (manager, Jose's), Andy Doss (manager, Days Inn), and Lee Ann Van Winkle (manager, Super 8). Moved by Shipley, second by Coody to recommend to City Council appointment of Neal Crawford. Motion carried. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
