HomeMy WebLinkAbout2001-02-12 - MinutesGROUP: ADVERTISING & PROMOTION COMMISSION DATE: February 12, 2001 PRESENT: Bob Davis, Alex Jerde, Curtis Shipley, Kevin Santos, John Maguire, and Marilyn Johnson. ABSENT: Joe Fennel, John Gilliam and Ching Mong The regular meeting of the Advertising and Promotion Commission was called to order at the Chamber of Commerce conference room at 2:10 p.m. by Curtis Shipley. MINUTES Moved by,Jerde, second by Davis to approve the minutes of the January 8 meeting. With no dissent or corrections, the minutes were approved. FINANCIAL REPORT John Maguire presented the financial report for January. Collections for the month were down 1.93% with total collections of $98,397. Commissioners were relieved that the change was not more because of harsh weather conditions in December. January expenses were $73,698, with largest expenditure to the Chamber of Commerce for contract payment. CONVENTION AND VISITOR DEVELOPMENT REPORT Marilyn Johnson distributed activity report showing inquiries were up in January. She and Lisa Lee attended the Northwest Arkansas Bridal Fair and had booked business as a result of their attendance. Marilyn attended the Tulsa Boat, Sport and Travel Show for three days distributing Fayetteville material. Fayetteville will host the Arkansas Parks and Tourism Commission August 16-17, 2001. Marilyn and Joe Fennel presented the draft HMR ordinance to the City Council. Marilyn presented it at a second meeting and it was sent to the Ordinance Review Committee. The committee will meet again on Tuesday, February 13. Marilyn announced the resignation of Lisa Lee, who is leaving because her husband has taken a new job in San Antonio. Ads have been placed in newspapers and 27 applications have been received in response. Marilyn will interview candidates next week. Finalists will meet with Commissioners the week of the 26a'. BLACKWOOD/MARTIN/CJRW REPORT Marilyn reported for Susan Wallace who was on vacation. RFP's (Requests for Proposals) for updating the website are out and interviews will be the week of February 26. Booth has been sent to manufacturer for repair. Agency is working on Running/Walking brochure and dining and lodging brochure. Both are in proofing and should be printed by the end of the month. Meeting Planner Guide reprint and bags are at the printer. • • • Old Business TOWN CENTER Richard Alderman told the Commission that work on the Town Center had fired up since last month. Skin is on the outside. On the exterior all that is left is putting the top on the tower and the sheathing should follow that. By the end of the month, brick and skin should be on the tower and work should be inside. Moved by Davis, second by Jerde to approve Change Order #5 that adds $21,979 to the project. Motion carried. DRAFT HMR ORDINANCE The HMR is a competitive fairness issue that should level the playing field for types of food served in Fayetteville. Marilyn will present again to the Ordinance Review Committee before it will go back to the City Council. New Business CONTRACT WITH THE ADVERTISING AGENCY The third of a three-year contract with Blackwood Martin/CJRW will expire in June. Moved by Santos, second by Davis to send out RFP's for advertising agencies. Motion carried. Marilyn will present RFP for approval at March meeting. LEGISLATIVE ISSUES Marilyn reported that there is hope that Senator Hoofman will add the Town Center to turnback funding bill with the Alltel Arena. HB 1250 is in committee to curb the health department authority to regulate smoking in all restaurants. TOUR Commissioners will be scheduled for a tour of the Town Center at the end of the March meeting. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
