HomeMy WebLinkAbout2000-02-14 - Minutes• GROUP: ADVERTISING & PROMOTION COMMISSION DATE: February 14, 2000 PRESENT: Heather Daniel, Fred Hanna, Alex Jerde, Jim Waselues, Ching Mong and Marilyn Johnson ABSENT: Joe Fennel and Curtis Shipley • • The regular meeting of the Advertising and Promotion Commission was called to order at the Chamber of Commerce conference room at 2:00 p.m. by Mayor Fred Hanna. APPOINTMENT OF COMMISSIONERS Moved by Waselues, second by Daniel to appoint Ching Mong to fill the unexpired term of Carl Maguire which expires 3-31-2001. Motion carried. Moved by Daniel, second by Jerde to appoint John Gilliam to a full term beginning 4-1- 2000 (will replace Waselues). Motion carried. MINUTES Moved by Jerde, second by Daniel to approve the minutes of the January 10 meeting. Motion carried. FINANCIAL REPORT John Maguire presented the financial report. Collections for January were $100,334, a 12.58% increase. Expenses for the month were $51,410. Moved by Daniel, second by Jerde to approve the financial report. Motion carried. CONVENTION AND VISITOR DEVELOPMENT REPORT Marilyn Johnson reviewed activity report in agenda packet. Four conventions were recruited. Mardi Gras 2000 parade was promoted. A lot of time was spent working on the Razorback football game situation which resulted in a 15 year contract with 2 games in Little Rock in 11 years and 3 for 4 of those years. Status of the Town Center lawsuit was reviewed. The Hospitality in a Heartbeat program developed by Fayetteville will be the format of a program for Pine Bluff. Fayetteville collage of photos will appear on the NWA Regional Phonebook Marilyn attended the Tulsa Boat, Sport and Travel Show. The Dining and Lodging Guide is at the printers. ADVERTISING AGENCY REPORT Susan Wallace reported that the agency is reviewing collateral for Town Center. Agency is working on ad production for 2000. The Town Center will be featured in Successful Meetings magazine. OLD BUSINESS • • • Town Center Richard Alderman advised the Commissions that construction is going well. The contractor is getting walls all the way around and are preparing to pour the slab for the parking deck. Alderman reviewed change orders for the project. Daniel moved, Jerde seconded to approve $14,816 in change orders. Motion carried. Marilyn updated the Commission on the status of Town Center lawsuits. OTHER BUSINESS Tyson Track Center The Mayor praised the new track facility and the great opening with the USA Golden Spike international meet. Jim Waselues Recognition The Commission thanked Jim for serving on the Commission and congratulated him on a great write-up in the paper. Hockey Arena The Mayor reviewed plans for feasibility study with Western Professional Hockey Association to build multipurpose arena which could be used for other activities including concerts, rodeos, etc. They are looking a location between the terminal and the air museum with proceeds from parking and a portion of ticket sales which could sustain the airport. The arena will not affect air transportation. Heather Daniel had copies of the proposal for the Commission. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS Trolley Operations Report — A South route pilot project will start February 28. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
