PRESENT: Heather Daniel, Joe Fennel, Fred Hanna, Carl Maguire, Curtis Shipley,
Jim Waselues, and Marilyn Johnson
ABSENT: Alex Jerde
The regular meeting of the Advertising and Promotion Commission was called to order at
the City Hall Council Chambers at 2:00 p.m. by Chairman Joe Fennel.
MINUTES
Moved by Shipley, second by Hanna to approve the minutes of the April 12 meeting.
Motion carried.
FINANCIAL REPORT
Kevin Crosson presented the financial report. Expenses in April were $217,539 with
major expenditures in architectural services, advertising agency contract, Chamber
operations contract, and Fayetteville Public Library genealogical collections. Collections
for April were $94,588, up 5.56% over last April. Year to date collections are
$363,742 up 8.15%.
Moved by Shipley, second by Waselues to approve the financial report. Motion carried.
CONVENTION AND VISITOR DEVELOPMENT REPORT
Marilyn Johnson reviewed activity report in agenda packet. She worked with 2
conventions, a bus tour company, and a FAM tour. Activities for The History Channel
Great Race are progressing.
Inquiries are up for the month and year-to-date.
ADVERTISING AGENCY REPORT
Susan Stirewalt reported that inquiries are up 55% year to date. Replacement
publications are performing better than expected. Work is progressing on the web site
and at the next A & P meeting they should have a concrete design to present. Work
should be complete by summer.
OLD BUSINESS
TOWN CENTER
Richard Alderman reported that the base bids for the Town Center were between
$8,693,000 and $8,970,000 with the lowest from Oakridge Builders. With deductive Alt.
I. Loose kitchen equipment, Alt. II deck leveler, and Alt III lowest level of parking deck,
the low bidder was Nabholz.
• Shipley moved to keep all three deductive alternatives in and look at funding options with
city as well as negotiate options with Contractor, second by Daniel Motion carried.

NEW BUSINESS
Fayetteville Mid-America Youth Basketball Tournament funding request
Eugene Nash presented a request for funding of this tournament for girls. Moved by
Hanna, second by Waselues to pay for trophies up to $4,620. Motion carried.
NCAA Subregional & Superregional Baseball Toumaments. Ken Brock and Rosemary
Rogers presented information regarding 4 teams for 7 days in subregional and 2 teams for
superregional. Moved by Fennel, second by Shipley for A & P to sponsor for $3,001.
Motion carried. On May 17, teams will be known.
Air Fest
John Kalagias from the Air Museum presented a request for $3,00 for Air Fest. Moved
by Shipley, second by Hanna that $3,000 be appropriated. Motion carried.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
