FINANCIAL REPORT
Ben Mayes presented financial report for May. HMR collections were $97,309, an increase of 11.57%
over May, 1997 collections. Year to date collections are $433,644, an 8.69% increase over 1997. May
expenditures were $78,560. Marilyn indicated that this is the largest month of HMR collections since
collections began.
Ben reviewed 1998 revised schedule of resources available.
CONVENTION AND VISITOR DEVELOPMENT REPORT
Marilyn Snapp presented the Convention Visitor Development report. Inquiries for the month are down
from last year. The Newcomer's Trolley trial inn was held with three participants. Reservations are full
for June tour. Money magazine contacted Marilyn for slides to use in their article on best places to live.
C -Span School bus was here to do short presentation on Bill Clinton's life here.
ADVERTISING AGENCY REPORT
Susan Stirewalt reported that agency was excited about increase in HMR but concerned with drop in
responses versus last year. Internet inquiries, which have caused a decrease in the traditional advertising
responses, were somewhat anticipated since ads focused on web site address and 800 number. State
magazine/newspaper co-op insert has had most effect on responses. This is being addressed and changes
are anticipated in 1999 co-op program. However, core of schedule is performing adequately without need
for revisions.
Susan reported work on impact of opening of regional airport and its effect on Fayetteville hotels, motels
and restaurants. They are identifying communities with two airports to identify problems they encountered
and solutions. They are also studying the current business traveler. This work will be in conjunction with
the Chamber Convention and Visitor sub -committee.
