CALL TO ORDER:
The meeting was called to order by Joe Fennel at 2:00
in the City of Fayetteville Council Chamber.

MONTHLY REPORTS:
MINUTES
It was moved by Shipley, second by Jerde to approve the
minutes of the January 12 meeting. Motion carried.
FINANCIAL
Ben Mayes presented the financial report for January. The
HMR collections were $82,157, an increase of 11.31% over
January 1997 collections. January expenditures were $89,199.
Moved by Shipley, second by Jerde to approve the January
financial report. Motion carried.
ACTIVITY REPORT
Marilyn Snapp presented convention/visitor activity for
January. A copy of her report will be mailed to
Commissioners.
AGENCY REPORT
Susan Stirewalt reported on advertising activity. She
informed Commissioners about Fayetteville promotional
packaging concept being developed. Twelve hotels are
participating and restaurants will be contacted next.
OLD BUSINESS:
TOWN CENTER/EXHIBIT HALL
Richard Alderman presented results of public presentation.
The following steps should follow:
1) A & P approve design plans
2) WDD needs soil boring tests done by an engineer
3) take the project to city council
Following discussion by Commissioners, Shipley moved, second
by Williams 1) that an independent third party be hired to do
cost estimates, 2) that an engineering study be done on soil
borings, and 3) that items in public presentation be costed
so that Commissioners can make choices/tradeoffs. A & P
wants to make final decision within a month to send to the
city council. Motion carried.
NEW BUSINESS
FUNDING REOUEST - AAAA STATE BASEBALL TOURNAMENT
Moved by Shipley, second by Jerde to approve funding request
for $2,000 for AAAA State Baseball Tournament. Motion
carried.
FUNDING REQUEST - H.A.W.K.'S AAU BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
Moved by Jerde, second by Shipley to approve AAU Basketball
Tournament request for $2,000. Motion carried.
FUNDING REOUEST -
LEVEL 6-10
Moved by Williams,
approved. Motion
1998 ARKANSAS STATE GYMNASTICS COMPETITION
second by Shipley that request for $600 be
carried.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
